Memeboard — Disclaimer, Content & Keyboard Policy
Effective date: May 27, 2026 Last updated: May 27, 2026
Overview
Memeboard is an app and keyboard for sharing user-generated and editorial memes inspired by popular culture. This Disclaimer explains how content works on Memeboard, our content moderation approach, and your options if you have copyright or content concerns.
This Disclaimer is operated by Samwise & Co, based in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
For any concerns described below, contact us at: samwisestudios01@gmail.com
1. Scope (App and Keyboard)
This Disclaimer covers:
- The Memeboard mobile application (the “App”)
- The Memeboard system keyboard installed and enabled on your device (the “Keyboard”)
- Any associated services, including search, sharing, and content delivery
Where this Disclaimer refers to “Memeboard,” it includes both the App and the Keyboard unless context indicates otherwise.
2. Nature of Content
Memeboard contains and distributes content that includes:
- Original memes created by us or our contributors
- Short-form video clips, image macros, and reaction memes derived from films, television series, sports moments, and other popular culture
- User-favorited and user-shared content discoverable through search and categories
Memes inherently reference, parody, or transform existing cultural material. We treat each shared meme as either an original creation, a transformative work, or a brief excerpt used for commentary, criticism, or parody — purposes traditionally protected under fair use, fair dealing, and similar doctrines in major jurisdictions including the United States, European Union, United Kingdom, India, and the United Arab Emirates.
We do not assert ownership over the underlying source material in derivative memes. Original cinematographic, musical, or literary works remain the intellectual property of their respective creators, studios, broadcasters, publishers, or rights-holders.
3. Keyboard-Specific Content Behavior
The Memeboard Keyboard processes input as follows:
- Search within Memeboard’s meme search field: when you actively type in the Memeboard search field, your query is sent to our backend to retrieve relevant memes.
- GIF search and browse: when you use the GIF tab, search queries are sent to our GIF content provider (Klipy) to fetch results.
- Typing in other apps: the Memeboard Keyboard does not log, store, transmit, or analyze text you type in fields outside Memeboard’s own search.
We do not capture, store, or transmit:
- Passwords
- Credit card numbers
- Sensitive financial information
- Personal messages
- Search queries entered into other apps (Google, YouTube, banking apps, messaging apps, etc.)
4. Privacy and Input Transparency
For full details about what data we collect and how we use it, please refer to our Privacy Policy [link to privacy policy URL].
In short: we do not perform keystroke logging outside Memeboard’s own UI, we do not sell your data, and we do not use any advertising or third-party analytics SDKs.
5. Fair Use, Fair Dealing, and Transformative Use Notice
We curate and distribute memes under the following principles:
- United States: Section 107 of the U.S. Copyright Act recognizes fair use for purposes including criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and parody. We rely on fair use to share short transformative excerpts.
- United Kingdom and EU: Fair dealing for purposes of caricature, parody, or pastiche (UK CDPA 1988 §30A; EU Copyright Directive Article 17(7)) protects transformative meme content.
- India: Section 52 of the Indian Copyright Act exempts fair dealing including criticism and review.
- United Arab Emirates: Federal Law No. 38 of 2021 recognizes fair use for educational and informational purposes within reasonable limits.
- Other jurisdictions: Similar fair-use, fair-dealing, or quotation doctrines apply in most major copyright frameworks.
We strive to use only what is necessary, transform the source, and avoid commercial exploitation that would substitute for the original work.
6. No Ownership Claim Over Source Material
Memeboard does not claim ownership of any third-party intellectual property used in memes, including:
- Film and television clips
- Music and audio
- Photographs of public figures
- Logos, trademarks, or brand assets
- Game footage, animation, or other media
All such materials remain the intellectual property of their respective owners. Memes featuring such materials are presented as transformative commentary, parody, criticism, or cultural reference — not as endorsements, licensed reproductions, or representations of the original rights holders.
7. Respect for Creators and Rights Holders
We respect the rights of original creators and rights holders. We:
- Do not sell or license the underlying source material in our memes
- Do not allow commercial republication of memes outside the App
- Will respond promptly to good-faith takedown requests as described below
- Encourage attribution where the original creator is known
8. Content Moderation
We actively moderate the meme catalog to prevent the following content from appearing:
- Hate speech, slurs, or content targeting protected groups
- Explicit sexual content
- Graphic violence or gore
- Content involving minors in any sensitive context
- Defamatory or knowingly false content about specific individuals
- Content promoting illegal activities
We use a combination of human review and automated filtering. Despite our best efforts, no moderation system is perfect. If you encounter content that violates these standards, please report it using the in-app “Report” feature or email us at samwisestudios01@gmail.com.
9. Copyright Complaints and Takedown Procedure
We respond to copyright complaints in accordance with applicable law. If you believe content in Memeboard infringes your copyright, please send us a takedown notice with the following information:
9.1 Required information
To process a copyright complaint, please include:

- Your contact information — full legal name, mailing address, phone number, and email
- A good-faith statement that you believe the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law
- A statement under penalty of perjury that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf

Send the notice to: samwisestudios01@gmail.com

We aim to review valid takedown notices and act within 7 business days of receipt. Where the complaint is clear and well-supported, we generally remove or restrict access to the disputed content faster than this commitment.

Send counter-notifications to: samwisestudios01@gmail.com
If we receive a valid counter-notification, we may restore the content unless the original complainant files legal action within a reasonable period.
9.4 Repeat infringers
We may suspend or terminate accounts or contributors who repeatedly upload infringing content.
9.5 Designated agent (forthcoming)
For United States Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) compliance, we are in the process of registering a designated agent with the U.S. Copyright Office. Until that registration is complete, all copyright complaints should be sent to the email address above and will be processed under our internal takedown procedure described in this section.
10. Third-Party Platform Disclaimer
Memeboard may include content sourced from or linked to third-party platforms (such as our GIF provider Klipy). Memeboard is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any film studio, television network, sports league, music label, or content rights holder featured in our memes.
Trademarks, logos, character names, and brand identities visible in memes remain the property of their respective owners and are used in this App for non-commercial, transformative, or parodic purposes only.
11. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- Memeboard is provided “AS IS” without warranties of any kind, express or implied
- We do not guarantee uninterrupted, secure, or error-free service
- We are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App
- Our maximum liability to you for any claim relating to the App will not exceed the amount you have paid us for the App in the past 12 months (or USD $0 for the free version)
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of liability for certain damages; in those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by law.
12. Our Intent
Memeboard exists to make sharing memes effortless and fun. We are not in the business of commercially exploiting other people’s creative work. If you are a rights holder or creator and you have a concern about how your content appears in Memeboard, please reach out — we will work with you to address it.
13. Governing Law
This Disclaimer is governed by the laws of the United Arab Emirates. Any disputes arising under this Disclaimer or related to use of the App will be resolved in the courts of Dubai, UAE.
